Empower: A Trauma-Informed EAL Program

Free English as an Additional Language (EAL) Classes for Women

Migrant Workers Centre’s Empower: A Trauma-Informed EAL Program delivers specialized English as an Additional Language classes to at-risk women (cis and trans) migrant workers. The program is committed to creating opportunities for empowerment for women through an understanding and engagement with their employment-related legal rights, building their confidence and self-esteem, strengthening their English communication skills, and developing a sense of connection and community with each other. The trauma-informed approach to the program aims to create as safe a space as possible for workers who may have experienced trauma and integrate practices to nurture a sense of mental health and well-being.

The classes will take place virtually (via Zoom) due to COVID-19. Students will be required to have access to a computer in order to fully participate in the course and access all Zoom features.
